Rakuten buys Viber messaging app for $900 million


After Facebook Acquiring a giant messaging app Whtsapp , there is another big deal made by Japan’s Rakute. Japan’s Rakuten will acquire instant messaging and calling app developer Viber Media for $900 million, the e-commerce giant said Friday.

Rakuten’s purchase of the messaging and VoIP company follows its acquisitions of Canada’s ebook platform Kobo, Spanish video service Wuaki.tv, and Viki, a digital content platform.

Viber has become very popular messaging and calling app and giving tough competition to the apps like Skype. Viber is freely available for Android Phones & Tablets, Windows Phones, Iphones, Blackberry
