Facebook Buying Popular Messaging Giant WhtsApp for $16 Billions



It seems like 2014 is the year of Selling Top Social Companies. Here is another Shocking Deal of 2014, Facebook Announced that they are buying a messaging giant Whtapp for $16 Billions.The deal is being cut for $12 billion in Facebook shares, $4 billion in cash and an additional $3 billion in RSUs for employee retention.Facebook has posted on its blog, detailing the reasoning behind the acquisition, as well. Facebook Announced that WhatsApp will continue to operate independently and retain its brand. In addition, WhatsApp co-founder and CEO Jan Koum will join Facebook’s board.

Facebook notes that WhatsApp has over 450 million MAUs, with 70 percent of those active each day.“WhatsApp is on a path to connect 1 billion people. The services that reach that milestone are all incredibly valuable,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO in a statement.

WhatsApp, a messaging service for smartphones, lets users chat with their phone contacts, both one-on-one and in groups. The service allows people to send texts, photos, videos and voice recordings over the Internet. It also lets users communicate with people overseas without incurring charges for pricey international texts and phone calls. It costs $1 per year and has no ads. 

The deal is expected to close later this year.
